Happy to discover Inside Trail Racing and I’ve been geeking out on my Spring race schedule. Next up, Lake Chabot. I like it because it looks fairly exposed to sunlight and there’s not much climbing. With 95% of my runs taking place in the Headlands, I’ve grown fairly accustomed to shade and climbing. Suddenly, flat land and sunshine make me nervous! Time to shape up. Speaking of shaping up, the next Strava run challenge is brewing and I’m psyched to hammer out the details. It’s going to be epic. Happy Trails.
Since March, the Firefox Gone Mobile ice cream truck has cruised through the US cities of Austin, Los Angeles and New York serving free, community-named gourmet ice cream and talking to folks about Firefox for mobile. It’s been fantastic to interact with each and every visitor, answering questions, demoing Firefox for Android and Firefox Home for the iPhone, helping folks download and eating free sweet treats!
Due to its great reception, we’re taking Firefox Gone Mobile across the pond! Next week, June 15-17, we’ll be driving the Firefox Gone Mobile ice cream truck around London from from 12-6pm each day, clad with great swag and our famous, community-named ice cream creations. (Have you tried the Mozilly Vanilly or The Awesome Bar?)
To find out where we are each day, follow us @mozmobile and be sure to look out for #fficecream on Twitter. We’ll be tweeting our location throughout the day so bring a friend or co-worker, get a hug from The Firefox himself, (maybe a t-shirt too!) and learn more about Firefox for mobile. See you there.
I’m breaking out of my typical mobile and gadget mold tonight to introduce you all to Schroeder Looney. Schroeder was raised and trained as a guide dog — passing all levels, graduating (a very small percentage do this), and getting paired with his owner. Despite his incredible smarts and eagerness to please, an allergy took him out of service life and landed him at the Looney Bin; his guaranteed home for life.
“Career Change” for Schroeder suited him well. Play dates with the other “failures” and meetups in the park were just the beginning. In his new found free time, he took up Latin, watercolor and discovered a new love for David Foster Wallace short stories.
Another great aspect of transitioning from a professional guide to an every day dog was the food. We said goodbye to the lean, No Trans Fat kibble and said hello to Friday night roast chickens and fatty filet scraps. Shrimp too!
Despite our efforts to make him a “normal” dog, Schroeder has always been in service — always polite, always cross checking and developing his contingency plan — he even helped design Earl’s (beloved basset hound) escape route one wild Halloween night. Although we encourage him to relax more, he’s always looking out for his family.
So here we are. Approximately 7 years after he arrived at our crazy house. He’s nibbling on some steak while I pull apart this whole chicken for him. He’s slurps it all up — smiling — a joyous occasion. He’ll find his way to a cool dark spot in the court yard and let that wonderful food sit in his belly, dreaming puppy-dog things.
So please take a moment to say hello and then, wish a fond farewell to our wonderful German chancellor tonight. Tomorrow his old aching joints and his gentle disposition will be put to rest. Tonight I will repeatedly remind myself: he had a wonderful life, he had a wonderful life, he had a wonderful life.
Sleep tight Mr. Schroeder.
This featured mobile add-ons round-up focuses on giving you more privacy and control over your preferences and settings.
Firefox for mobile users have been asking for ways to clear their private data and history, and these two add-ons help you do just that. I’m featuring both of them as they have similar but different functionality, so pick the one that’s right for you.
Clear Mobile History does exactly what it means. Install this (restartless!) add-on and add a “Clear History” button to the Firefox preferences. This way you can manually select this option at your discretion.
Cleary gives you a bit more fine grained control over your data. This add-on creates a sub page for clearing small sets of preferences for certain time durations. It also adds an option for “Clear On Shutdown” which is a handy way of clearing that history, even when you forget!
These easy to use and helpful mobile add-ons are a great step toward giving users more security and privacy features over their Firefox for mobile oasis. Enjoy!

Ready to light up the world?
To celebrate Firefox going mobile, we’ve created Spark, a game that lets you share Firefox with friends and help the flame of the open Web glow bright. So get Spark, engage in challenges, unlock badges and support Mozilla’s mission for a better Web in the process. All good stuff!
Quick Tips to Get Started & Earn Your First Badge
- Install Firefox 4 on your Android or Maemo device and conveniently access your Spark from your Start page. (iPhones and non-Android mobile devices can go directly to https://spark.mozilla.org.
- Tap “Join,” and register by inputting a username, password (at least 8 characters) and email (only used for password recovery)
- Boost Your Spark by sharing your location with the global map and proving your “parent,” or the person who shared Spark with you so you can link up and earn more badges!
Once you join, you can interact with your Spark “hologram” on your phone and see it grow as you play the game. The spark itself was developed using Canvas 2D technology. You can also tilt your phone and watch how the Spark moves as it takes advantage of your device’s accelerometer. Great technology, great game! Get Firefox and start you spark!
Never fear Firefox desktop users, check out the global stats and help spread the word by visiting https://spark.mozilla.org. We’ll be tracking sparks, but they do not represent the number of downloads we’ve received — just the number of people supporting Firefox going mobile, so let’s light up the world!
It’s finally here folks! The loved and highly acclaimed Adblock Plus for mobile!
